WHAT IS TIME BLOCKING AND WHY DOES IT WORK?

Time blocking can be described as building out large blocks of time in your schedule to do work. This time block can be anywhere from 2 – 4 hours.

This strategy creates a lot more flexibility when working from home. It is very hard to stick to a tight, scheduled out day, as many unique challenges will arise.

In these time blocks, focus this time to get projects completed. When scheduling tasks hourly and in a tight list, it can lead to over tasking, causing you to not do your best as you are rushing through to get it all done.

“Figure out where you are really going to concentrate and be fully invested in it.”

THE PROCESS FOR TIME BLOCKING

The great part about using time blocking is that it can be as loose or tight as you need it to be. It does not have to start at an exact time. You work till you are finished with the task instead of doing assignments by the clock.

This is a great tool for people who are working for another job. Time blocking gives you an opportunity to take advantage of the chunks of time where you are not working your main job to be more productive as an influencer.

Creating a time blocking template can help you see what tasks you need to do and how much time you should block to get it done.

WHAT IS TASK BATCHING AND HOW CAN IT BE COMBINED WITH TIME BLOCKING?

Another great strategy to use is task batching. This involves taking tasks that are similar in nature and doing a number of them at the same time.

Doing this will ultimately increase productivity flow as you do not have to switch your mindset. In your time block, work on the same activity for multiple tasks. This will help you stay in the zone because you do not have to reframe your brain by starting a new project. You are saving time and improving the quality of focus you have.

Having a time blocking planner would be a great tool to keep track of your tasks. Using Google Calendar or Clickup can provide you with a time blocking template as you can see all your tasks scheduled. Make a to-do list in a weekly or monthly view and use it as your time blocking planner. Clickup is helpful as it integrates with Google Calendar in one click.

HOW TO WORK SMARTER, NOT HARDER IN YOUR BUSINESS

It is important to remember to have a plan. Creating a time blocking planner or time blocking template is a smart way to plan out your time blocks accordingly.

Also, make sure that all your tasks are connecting to your goals. If they do not relate to your overall goal, you either do not need to be doing them at all or need to be spending very little time on them.

“Have a goal for the quarter and everything needs to be working towards that goal.”
